Ministries & Committees

For additional information on any of the ministries at Holy Cross, please call the Parish Office at 732-842-0348.

Adult Choir
The Adult Choir of Holy Cross Parish comes together to bring glory to God through the gift of music. We welcome new Members to sing at one Mass each Sunday, also on Christmas Eve, during Holy Week and Easter services as well as special liturgies throughout the year.

Liturgical Environment Committee
Members are assigned on a weekly basis to maintain the sacred liturgical space of the church by watering altar flowers, maintaining altar linens and priest and altar server vestments. They help to decorate and clean for holy days. Members participate in social events and days of recollection.

Baptism Ministry                                                                                                                                    Baptism Preparation Ministry not only prepares parents and godparents to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism, but helps connect families with the sacramental and social life of Holy Cross parish. Families enjoy a hospitality visit in their home with a minister who shares the meaning of Baptism, explains the celebration of the sacrament and answers any questions. On the day of the baptism, volunteer ministers welcome the families and share in the community celebration at church. The families continue to receive loving support from Holy Cross as their child grows through the pre-school years.

Bereavement Committee
Volunteers comfort by being present at the wake and funeral Mass, baking and delivering pastries, and by keeping in touch through the first year of bereavement to offer consolation. They also plan and assist in a Memorial Liturgy on All Souls Day for deceased parishioners of the past year.

Catholic Scripture Study
The study group meets weekly to read and analyze Scripture and share faith with each other. The program is a 30-week parish-based model completely faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Elizabeth Ministry
Elizabeth Ministry offers personal support to women in all the different aspects of motherhood. Elizabeth ministers from Holy Cross Parish affirm and assist women during their unique childbearing years. Volunteers are trained to share their life experiences, willingness to help and respect for the sanctity of all life with women in need of support from a compassionate listener.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
Adorers volunteer an hour of their time each week to pray before the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays.  Our committed volunteers bring the needs of the parish and school before our Lord during Adoration.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion during the Mass. They may also carry the Eucharist to the sick and the homebound .

Healing Shepherd Charismatic Prayer Group
We meet weekly for prayer and sponsors a Healing Mass on the 4th Monday of each Month.

Holy Cross Men's Group
The Holy Cross Men's Group provides opportunities for spiritual and personal growth, service and outreach to the Holy Cross Parish Community, and social interaction for adult men of the parish. The group meets every Thursday evening from August to May, utilizing an interactive, multimedia men's program focused upon the development of authentic male leadership provided by That Man is You! The program content harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the Saints to develop the vision of man fully alive. It is particularly indebted to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and Pope St. John Paul II.

Liturgy Committee
Members seek to deepen our experience of the central mysteries of our faith by assisting in plans for the liturgical seasons and special liturgical celebrations throughout the year. Through network with the Office of Worship, they help to coordinate other liturgical ministers, as well as work with the Altar Guild, Music Ministry and Ministers of Welcome.

Lunch Break Volunteers
Volunteers help prepare and serve meals at Lunch Break, a soup kitchen program in Red Bank on the 4th Monday of every month from 9AM-1PM.

Ministers of Welcome (Ushers)
Greet parishioners and guests and welcome them to Holy Cross Church. Escort congregants to available seats, arrange with a family to bring up the Offertory gifts, take up and secure the collection, and hand out parish bulletins and other materials.

Ministers of the Word
Ministers of the Word serve during Mass by proclaiming the Word of God and leading the Prayer of the Faithful during the Liturgy of the Word. They stay fresh in their ministry through prayer, scripture readings and days of reflection.

Music Ministry
This program enriches the spiritual well-being of the parish before, during and after liturgy through song. Our cantors encourage our congregation to participate through singing prayers, acclamations, and hymns so we can experience good liturgy. The choir and music directors welcome and cultivate new musical talent, both singers and musicians, to develop into one voice giving praise and glory to God through music, and enhancing the participation of the congregation.

Religious Education Teachers and Aides
Volunteers teach children from grades K through 7 on Sunday mornings or Tuesday afternoons using the curriculum set by the Office of Religious Education.

Respect Life Committee
Members discuss and distribute pertinent information on life issues, both religious and legal, coming from the Office of Parish Life/ Respect Life, help at special liturgies and services for the celebration of life. They also coordinate parish participation in the March for Life in Washington, D.C. in January.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
A preparation program for those considering becoming Catholic or for Catholics wishing to complete the sacraments of initiation.

Social Concerns/Social Justice Committee
Lead projects to help parishioners share with those less fortunate with food, diaper, and blood drives and the Stars for Jesus Christmas gift program. The five food drives each year support St. Anthony's Food Pantry in Red Bank, and Project Paul in Keansburg. The Thanksgiving Food drive supports six different churches and agencies with turkeys and all of the trimmings. The Stars for Jesus program fulfills over 400 gift requests from nine agencies. In collaboration with other agencies, assist with material assistance, referrals, and food/gift cards to the needy in the parish and surrounding towns. Educate ourselves and create awareness in parishioners and others of our responsibilities to work for social concerns and justice. Support Project Paul, St. Vincent de Paul, Love, Inc., and other ministries and programs to help the needy.

Volunteer Support
Volunteers assist when the parish needs a helping hand to do a mailing, to run errands, to answer the phones or to do other office work. The sharing of any time or skill is gratefully accepted and appreciated.
